Choose your adventure!

Let’s talk locations! The following inspiration boards are to help you decide which location/type of location is the best fit for you. Some things to keep in mind when considering your location are the time of day, time of year, temperatures for your shooting time, as well as whether your session is on a high-demand weekend time, or less crowded weeknight. All of these things will impact how your session goes at any given location. So, grab a cozy beverage and enjoy looking through the possibilities!

SEASONAL NOTES:

Winter – Your home is always a perfect way to tell your own personal story. In-home sessions (single family sessions exclusively) do well when you have littles and are up for a bit of documentary imagery sprinkled in. The Nelson is a great place in the afternoon to maximize the heat of the day. We also have access to a century old greenhouse that has wonderfully mild temperatures even in the depths of Winter!

Early Spring – This is a great time to hit urban locations as you’ll never notice the lack of foliage on the trees. You can expect full foliage by May.

Late Spring – Mornings in late Spring/early Summer are the BEST. Very low humidity and ah-mazing temperatures. June is a beautiful, lush, green month for outdoor photos.

Summer – It’s best to stick to mornings and evenings to avoid the heat of the day. Mornings are less hot, but more humid. Evening sessions, while gorgeous, start late to hit the beautiful sunset light. Schedule early in the summer to avoid the baked-in heat of the Midwest in July and August.

Early Fall – September is the best time of year for your outdoor portraits. Even though the middle of the day comes with heat, the mornings and evenings are gorgeous! There is also more daylight for an evening session after school and work than there will be at the end of October.

Late Fall – Outdoor sessions shift to afternoons only, as that’s the warmest time of day to be outside. With the sun setting very early (and the end of Daylight Savings Time) sessions have to start earlier and earlier, making weekend time slots more popular. We stop doing outdoor morning sessions for families with young kiddos due to cold temps.
