We’ll spend about an hour together at the Kansas City metro location of your choice. First and foremost, we’ll help you choose a location that is right for your family, has great lighting, and fits your style. You’ll spend your time with us laughing, playing a few games, having a stress-free, FUN time. We WILL ask you to smile for the camera, but we’ll do it with style and hopefully a bit of entertainment (which is code for Mike will make odd sounds and jump over Julie’s head-true story). We always do a mix of natural posing and candid shots. Don’t expect it to be a ‘smiling at the camera the whole time’ type of session. We firmly believe it’s important to capture not only what y’all look like at this moment in time, but just how much y’all love each other.

Once your session is over, the agonizing wait begins! Once we are done preparing your images and designs, you’ll cozy up in your favorite spot from the convenience of your home for your guided ordering session via Zoom. This is when you’ll see your images for the first time, as well as seeing your very own wall art and album preview. You’ll place your product order at this meeting. PLUS… we promise to come alongside you to help you prepare for your ordering session, no worries.

Aaaaabsolutely, we can! We even made a whole blog post about it, check it out here: WHAT TO WEAR to my fabulous session with MIKE + JULIE.  But, our biggest concern is that you choose clothing that you feel GREAT in. When you feel good, it shows.

Well first off, let’s agree that people trump location, every time. Great connections between people can happen anywhere 🙂 Now that we’ve established that, we specialize in the Northern Johnson County, the Plaza area, and Downtown areas. We have favorite spots that we know photograph well and we’d be happy to suggest the one that fits your family’s style the best. Want to know more about what we look for in a good location? Payment of your session fee reserves that day and time for you, and only you. So, when you can’t make it, no one else gets that spot either. But… we totally understand that life happens. You get one complimentary reschedule for any reason. After that, if you still need to reschedule there is a $75 rescheduling fee.

Our favorite time of day to shoot is during the evening a few hours before sunset. It’s hands-down the most flattering light of the day. But, it really depends on where your family is at these days. When is your kiddos’ best time of day? That’s when we want to shoot!

Since we live in the land of weather being persnickety, it’s a very good time to talk about our inclement weather procedure. If the forecast calls for poor shooting conditions (rain/strong winds/snow/excessive heat), we will contact you the night before your session and see if it’s possible to make a call at that time. Often though, it’s a matter of waiting until those last few hours prior to really know whether a reschedule is needed. If that’s the case, we will call you 3 hours prior to let you know our thoughts. If we postpone, no worries! We’ll compare calendars and come up with a date that works for both of us.

DON’T worry if your kiddos don’t want to smile. As much as you want your kiddo to be a perfect angel during the session, let yourself off the hook if it doesn’t happen. This is where we work our MIKE + JULIE magic 😉 It takes some kiddos a little longer to warm up to new people than others. We are pretty good at detecting that and turning things around. We never want you to push them, or force them to smile. It’s just not how we roll. Part of choosing a session with MIKE + JULIE means trusting our process. For us, that process looks like getting in there and just playing with your kiddos. It’s MORE about the experience than it is about the perfect pose.

Yep, we sure do. You can purchase one individual file, a bundle, or the whole kit and caboodle! We even provide an opportunity to earn your digitals. But, that digital file sure won’t look as nice on your walls as a big, beautiful piece of framed art though 😉 

Well, you can, just not with us… 😉 Studio work is great and all, don’t get us wrong. We just like the freedom of a real environment more. It’s actually an important element in what makes our style look the way it does.
