Welcome to another installment of… Why we LOVE the UNportrait Experience.
First off, if you’re new around here, you’re probably wondering what the UNportrait Experience is, amirite?
The UNportrait Experience is the opposite of portraits: no posing for the camera, no contriving moments from the photographer’s brain. Rather, allowing families to be who they truly are and gladly capturing it all.
It’s different than portraits where it’s up to the photographer to decide how your family gets depicted. Personally, 30 years from now, when I look back at my family, I want to remember how they really acted, how they really dressed, what goofy/unique/adorable/not-so-adorable things were happening at this time in our story. NOT, what a photographer (who was just doing their best, God bless em) thinks makes for the best photo. Some people love that stuff, and that’s great. That’s just not us. We’ll take a REAL moment over a contrived one EVERY SINGLE TIME.
And then there’s a truly practical side to choosing UNportraits over portraits. Sometimes, your littles are in a season where sitting still and performing to create the perfect photo is just plain stressful, for everyone involved. Why put them and yourself through that? What is it even for? …The social media standard of ‘perfect family photos?’ Nah, not interested.
